Does Charlotte, NC Have a Lesbian Bar? Lez-Friendly Venue Guide

lesbians in a bar

Charlotte has lesbian-friendly bars, but no specifically “lesbian” bars or clubs. Unfortunately, after the closure of the L4 Lounge, Charlotte does not have a dedicated lesbian bar. This is consistent with a trend across the United States according to a 2021 study that found that there are only 21 remaining lesbian bars in the entire country.

However, lesbians have no fear, because there are plenty of welcoming venues for queer women in Charlotte, North Carolina even if the city does not boast a lesbian-dedicated bar or club.

Hattie’s Tap and Tavern

The female owner of Hattie’s Tap & Tavern has resisted the bar being labeled a lesbian bar, but the bar is definitely LGBTQ-friendly and quite popular with queer women. Hattie’s is billed as a dive bar. The tavern is located in Plaza Midwood and features pool, bar games, and video games.

It is a fun and unique place to hang out for all kinds of people, including gay and bisexual women. The bar is beloved in its local community, with community support carrying it through the Covid-19 pandemic era.

Petra’s Bar

Only a short five-minute drive away from Hattie’s is another bar, Petra’s Bar, that is also popular with the lesbian community in Charlotte. Similar to Hattie’s, Petra’s is not specifically a gay or lesbian venue. However, it hosts LGBTQ-centered events in addition to more general interest events. Petra’s has an emphasis on live musical performances that draw in diverse crowds.
